CARDIAC ARREST

550 Deaths

In Luxembourg, 550 people die each year from cardiac arrest. In 70% of cases, it occurs in front of a witness, yet the survival rate is only 7%. Only early defibrillation can save the victims.

4 Minutes

In the event of cardiac arrest, time is critical. After 4 minutes, the survival rate decreases by 10% every minute. It is therefore essential that witnesses call emergency services and start resuscitation immediately.

1,408 AEDs

1,408 defibrillators (AEDs) are registered in Staying Alive LU. You can locate AEDs near you, but also add, validate, or update them.

THE CHAIN OF SURVIVAL

In the event of cardiac arrest, it is essential to begin resuscitation without delay, in order to preserve the victim’s chances of survival.

CALL

Is the victim unconscious and not breathing? You must call 112 before anything else.

COMPRESS

The victim must be lying on their back. Perform 100 to 120 compressions per minute. Place your hands in the middle of the sternum, keep your arms straight, and use your body weight to push 5 to 6 cm deep.

DEFIBRILLATE

Open the defibrillator and follow the voice instructions guiding you. The AED is very simple to use and completely safe for both you and the victim.

WAIT FOR THE EMERGENCIES SERVICES

Never leave the victim alone, wait until emergency services arrive and take over. Leave the pads in place.

STAYING ALIVE LU

Our Mission

Staying Alive LU is an initiative led by the Luxembourg Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), aiming to strengthen pre-hospital care for cardiac arrest victims in Luxembourg.

Through this app, we mobilize citizens and anyone present in the territory to respond quickly in case of cardiac emergencies. By reducing the time before emergency services arrive, we significantly increase survival chances. Indeed, every minute without chest compressions reduces the chances of survival by 10%.

Our mission: to build a true solidarity network of Cardiac First Responders to save lives, because every second counts.
